There is absolutely no reason why a very young child can not enjoy sliding about on a snowboard. That said, snowboarding with under 2’s is not for everyone and the reality of riding at this age is that it’s really just an extension of sledging.
There are some great 2 year old snowboarders out there, many of whom are able to come down a slope alone with control. However, the majority of these will have the luxury of living in the mountains… But don’t let this put you off!
Three is an exciting age to learn to snowboard and, if you and your kids are keen to get riding, then you can expect some great fun times on the snow.
Most children age 4 have the ability to enjoy and progress with snowboarding within a short amount of time. Although some may be tentative and nervous at first, …they have a real chance of learning some if not all of the basics within a week.
5 is a great age to learn to snowboard! Mix a bit of patience, help and advice from instructors or parents, a good learning area and appropriate equipment and you have an ideal recipe for shredding!
Most six year old’s have the ability to learn the snowboard basics within a week. Although it may take a few days for them to find their feet, after a week – if you’re lucky – you may have a fully fledged snowboard grom on your hands!
At aged 7 your child will have every chance of learning to snowboard to a competent standard within a week. You will find equipment and lessons fairly easy to source too.
